The concept

“Enhancing competitiveness of organic rice and tapioca cultivations to stimulate local development and Thai-EU trade relations”

          is the project on behalf of Thammasat University which co-funded by the EUROPEAN UNION under Small Project Facility Program. The aim of this project is to enhance competitiveness of Thai organic rice and tapioca, transferring technical capacity from organic experts to local farmers in line with EC Reg. 2092/91 and establishing connections among the different actors and operators involved in the organic rice and tapioca production and supply chain. The project focuses on production and trade of organic agricultural products, and it will be particularly helpful in orienting investments, stimulating conversion to organic systems and spreading successful marketing of organic products.

          The main activities are transferring knowledge related to organically grow jasmine rice and tapioca, setting up the procedures for organic certification, and promoting these products to the EU market operators creating economic EU and Thai interactions.

          The target groups are 1) Thammasat university academic staff 2) Organic farmers of jasmine rice and tapioca in the provinces of the North East of Thailand: Ubonratchathani, Surin, Buriram and Nakornratchasima and 3) selected Thai organic sector operators

          Kick-off meeting aims to launch the project by presenting the overall project objectives to the local stakeholders, in order to collect opinions and expectations. Thai organic sector operators and representants of local farmers will be invited to the event, with the aim of awaring of the existence and the activities of the project and creating the basis for further cooperation. EU sector operators and intermediaries of organic rice and tapioca will be contacted and invited to the meeting.
